The
First report of the International Monitoring Commission has fundamentally
challenged the concepts of natural justice embodied in Human Rights.
The democratic and legal position of 'Innocent
until proven guilty' has been put aside. It recommends actions
of political vetting against PUP members and those in society that are
merely 'suspected' of having links with the PUP, or paramilitaries.
It erroneously claims that we are not committed to the principles of
non-violence and exclusively peaceful and democratic means. |
In a democratic state, whatever your aspirations, the rule of law is fundamental. When some seek to abandon the principles of Human Rights and Equality by selective means or through imposed laws, we find our society on a spiraling slope towards McCarthyism. The IMC report raises some serious questions in this regard which the Human rights Commission and the Equality Commission need to urgently address. We are dismayed
at the IMC report and its recommendations. We have produced a concise
rebuttal of the IMC's first report
which can be read on, or downloaded from this site, or obtained from
our central office. We are resolved to continue the work highlighted
in this document regardless of the IMC's or the NIO's attempts to politicize
crime and criminalize politics. We shall not be deflected from attaining
our goal of a peaceful, stable and democratic society. |
